I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), as well as a licensed Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP). Born in Vietnam, my family immigrated to the United States as refugees. I grew up in Philadelphia and received my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Holy Family University. I earned my Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner degree at New York University. As a AGPCNP, I provided primary care for patients in underserved communities as well as inpatient care throughout Philadelphia. My shift in my nursing career to mental health became more apparent as I noticed many patients with underlying mental health illnesses were not being properly treated and it further exacerbated their medical conditions. This led me to earn my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Pennsylvania. I found my true calling as I transitioned into my position as a psychiatric nurse practitioner while serving a variety of populations.
THERAPEUTIC APPROACH
My mission in life has always been to serve others and to use the skills and knowledge that I have gained to help those in need. My experience as a nurse practitioner has taught me to listen empathetically and with compassion, which enables me to tailor a care plan that focuses on the goals that are unique to each individual. My main priority is to create an environment in which my patients feel safe and comfortable, so that we can develop a plan of action that is the best for healing and growth. My primary areas of focus are ADHD, depression, and anxiety.
